Is there public transit to this event?

Sadly, there is no public transportation. The I-84 is the major, safest way to get to the event.

Is there a registration for this Experience?

NO registration is required; there is no fee for this event.

How do I get to the Poetry and Artwork Trail entrances?

Two Trails have two artists on each Trail:  

1) Wyeth to Starvations Creek and 2) Mark O. Hatfield Twin Tunnel Trail.  

Both trails are along the Historic Columbia River Highway/Trail system.

Two Trail Entrances Details.

1) Wyeth to Starvations Creek.  

Wyeth entrance use I-84 exit 51. First poem is about 2.6 miles from the parking lot.  

Starvation Creek entrance use I-84 exit 55. First poem is about 1/2 mile from the parking lot.  

Entering Starvation Creek is only from the West.

Leaving Starvation Creek only allows you to proceed East toward Hood River.

2) Mark O. Hatfield Twin Tunnel Trail.  

Hatfield West Trailhead entrance use I-84 exit 64. First poem is about 1.75 miles from the West parking lot.  

Hatfield East Trailhead entrance use I-84 exit 69 (Mosier). First poem is about 1/2 mile from the East parking lot.  

How far are the Poems and Artwork from Trail parking lots?

Two poems are a short walk from one entrance. (less than 1/2 mile from parking lot).

Two poems are a longer walk from an entrance.

The artwork is a short walk from one entrance (less than 1/2 mile from parking lot).

What are these trails like?

Trails are paved and accommodate Mobility Devices. Walking with a cane or hiking pole is welcome.

The incline is only 5% which is ADA compliant. Normal walking shoes are okay.

Are there parking fees?

Both East & West Hatfield Twin Tunnel Trail parking lots require a day pass fee of $10.00.

Are there guides along the trail?

This pop up event is a self directed experience.

Both trails are 5 miles plus in length.

Wyeth Trailhead, Hatfield East and West Trail entrances have I-84 exits to each trailhead.   

Starvation Creek has access ONLY from the West .

Leaving Starvation Creek requires you to go East and turnaround in Hood River to return to the Portland direction.   

Are there concessions along the trail?

There is no drinkable water along the trails

There is no food nor food trucks along the trail

How do I get to the Poems and Artwork?

We have three poets & one visual artist presenting work along vistas of the Columbia River Gorge.

What do I need to know about being in the Gorge?

The pop up event will happen Rain or Shine

Look at weather map for appropriate clothing/coats,hats; Bring Water; layers for chilly wind exposures; snack for a little protein

Medical Emergency: Dial 911; if phone not responsive...move 100 ft and dial again unitl you connect. We tested these trails and were able to connect to 911 along each poetry spot. Other places along the gorge have small 'shadows' of unresponsiveness.

 

 

Where can I rent a bike?

We favor Bike the Gorge in Cascade Locks?

They have e-bikes, cargo bikes, bikes for carrying kids and dogs!
