Impression:  This ride is sponsored as a supported ride in June since 2001.  The Gorge Ride is brought to you once a year by Friends of Historic Columbia River Highway. Support includes water, fresh fruit, bagels, fresh cherries (! incredible as they are picked the day before and the day of), sag wagon, ice cream treat on return.

This ride is the distinct eastern high desert zone. You leave the Discovery Center in the Dalles and follow the low traffic Highway 30 (HCRH) to the top of Rowena Crest, then dip down past the Meyerdale Estate into the Cherry Valley which will be at its peak in middle June, descend to the town of Mosier & then climb up the dry side of the Gorge through the Twin Tunnels and emerge to the forest side of the Hatfield Trail. Continue under the canopy of trees to the western entrance of the Hatfield Trail Head and turn around.

Same as the other riverside trails, wind is present and is your friend one way! Near Rowena, the wind changes direction depending on temperature,  wind &  sunrise/sunset times.
