Total elevation gain 410 Ft

Starting Direction: Hatfield West Trailhead, Head East

Roadway: Paved Trail for Cyclist & Pedestrians

Services: None along trail or in tunnel

Impression:  Some hills. Western trail has good canopy of trees for trail. As you continue east, there is more exposure and you can become dehydrated due to wind. After tunnel, there is a beautiful large scree on the south and you are entering the high desert boundary. Along this trail are long range views of the Missoula flood carved Gorge.

This part of the HCRH was built in 1921 & had traffic lights for one direction flow only in the 1940s.
